Ultrawide monitors (21:9) and super-ultrawide panels (32:9) change the gaming experience significantly. They also require different setup considerations than standard 16:9 displays.
Aspect Ratio Compatibility
Not all games support 21:9 or 32:9 natively. Before buying an ultrawide, check your game library:
Full support: Most modern AAA titles, all Valve games, most open-world games (Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2)
Partial or pillarboxed: Some competitive titles limit field of view at ultrawide to prevent FOV advantages. Many older titles and some competitive multiplayer games cap at 16:9.
Tool for unsupported games: Flawless Widescreen utility can force ultrawide in many games that do not natively support it.
OSD Settings for Ultrawide
Aspect Ratio / Picture Mode — For games or content that do not support the full width:
- Use Auto or Full for native content
- Use 21:9 letterboxed output for 16:9 content to avoid stretching
PBP (Picture by Picture) — Some ultrawide monitors can show two PC inputs side by side. Useful for work; disable for gaming as it splits the refresh rate between inputs.
Refresh Rate — Ultrawides driving 3440×1440 require more bandwidth than 2560×1440. Verify your cable (DisplayPort 1.4 for 144Hz+) and GPU output spec.

Field of View
Games that support ultrawide do not automatically expand FOV correctly. Check the game's FOV slider and set it based on the 21:9 or 32:9 target. Third-party FOV calculators can compute the correct value.
Brightness and Color Uniformity
Large ultrawide panels are more susceptible to brightness and color uniformity issues than smaller monitors. Run a uniformity test pattern after setup:
- If corners are noticeably dimmer than the center, this is normal (typical panels have 15–20% falloff)
- If you see color tinting in corners (green or pink patches), it is a panel defect
Adaptive Sync
Enable FreeSync/G-Sync in the OSD. Ultrawide resolutions push frame rates lower, making adaptive sync more important to avoid tearing during dips.
