EUR/USD is the world's most traded currency pair. In mid-2026, it's sitting around 1.093 — up from May lows of 1.065. But where's it headed next?
I run a free currency converter tool and I've been tracking this pair closely. Here's my breakdown.
What's Driving EUR/USD Right Now
1. ECB vs Fed rate gap
The ECB held rates at its June meeting. Meanwhile, the Fed is pricing in two rate cuts by December. Rate differentials are the #1 driver of this pair — when the Fed cuts faster than the ECB, the dollar weakens and EUR/USD rises.
2. US inflation trajectory
Inflation has been cooling but unevenly. Every CPI print moves the needle. If inflation stays sticky above 2.5%, the Fed delays cuts → dollar strengthens → EUR/USD drops.
3. European political stability
Defense spending increases across Europe are fiscal stimulus in disguise. Combined with potential eurozone fiscal integration, this puts upward pressure on the euro.
4. Trade policy uncertainty
Tariff threats create risk-off flows into the dollar (EUR/USD down). Trade deal optimism reverses that (EUR/USD up). This swing factor is hard to predict but impossible to ignore.
